This design project will involve a skyway over Chestnut Street to improve accessibility to the far side of campus. Traffic on Chestnut Street is often heavy which makes it difficult for students walking between buildings such as Papadakis and the bookstore or between Stratton and the Creese student center.
The learning objectives for this project will include surveying methods of the Drexel population, modeling skyways in AutoCAD, and general project management. The major tasks which must be accomplished are to determine where a skyway is needed most and how such a skyway will be designed. One of the major technical challenges which this project will face is figuring out how to design a wheelchair accessible skyway given the limited space on the south side of Chestnut Street. The desired outcome for this project is to design a feasible skyway which will improve the flow of pedestrians across Chestnut Street.
